Our Monthly Book Club

Residents During Book Club

Daughter of one of the residents at Templeton House, Jillian volunteers regularly for their monthly book club. Jillian is a semi-retired teacher and lives locally. When Templeton advertised that they were looking for relatives to provide extra enrichment and activities, Jillian thought that a reading group might be popular. Her Mum Margaret always enjoyed reading in her younger years and this was a way to keep that interest alive for her as well as others who share the same passion.

We believe that no matter what our age, we all enjoy a good story. Jillian tries to choose short stories and poetry that she think's will resonate with the residents in some way or will just entertain them. "I love reading aloud and rarely have such an attentive and appreciative audience at school! “

This months book was a Roald Dahl selection which consists of nine short stories. Not only are these short stories full of adventure, but it helps residents to keep engaged for a shorter span of time, which is also more enjoyable for them.

Book Club at Templeton House Care Home

Residents thoroughly enjoyed the short stories read by Jillian, and had a brief discussion about what they had listened to. Residents look forward to sitting down and doing it again next month. We would like to thank Jillian for her hard work and dedication, and providing residents with this fantastic opportunity each month.
